RECAP: ISF World Schools Championships Swimming 2019

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – AAU Aquatics National Chair, Lewis Fellinger took a team of 16 swimmers to the 2019 ISF World Schools Championships Swimming on Monday, May 20 – Wednesday, May 22. The event hosted by School Sport Federation of Brazil (CBDE) and Rio de Janeiro, featured 400 young swimmers from 18 delegations all over the world, including Belgium Flanders, Brazil, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.
 
Swimmers from the United States were split on to two teams as a ‘school team’ and a ‘selected team.’ The teams clenched three podium appearances over the weekend (two individuals and one relay). Marcus Hodgson took the bronze in the men’s 50 butterfly for the Selected Team division with a time of 00:25.41, while Jake Warden was third in the men’s 50 backstroke for the School division with a time of 00:27.12. The third bronze medal went to the United States of America men’s 4x100 freestyle relay team (03:39.49).
 
Other stand outs were Lance Freiman, who placed 4th in the men’s 50 butterfly (00:25.19), and Alexander Hazlett who also came in fourth in the men’s 100 backstroke (00:59.77). The Phillips Academy Andover ‘A’ School relay team also finished fourth in the men’s 6x50m freestyle.
Fellinger’s team had seven other swimmers, including the women’s 4x100 freestyle relay, finish within the top ten in the world.
